About
EVERETT,
WASHINGTON
Stroll the
streets of
downtown
Everett and
you’ll
experience a
sense of the
city’s
historic
origins—along
with an
awareness of
the city’s
current
vitality and
a feeling of
anticipation
for the
future.
Everett’s
transformation
from a
"Milltown"
to an urban
center was a
labor of
love for
local
residents.
Since the
city was
incorporated
in 1893, its
citizens
have never
lost their
commitment
to making
Everett a
center of
commerce and
a meeting
place for
residents.
In the early
1990’s,
local
citizens
demonstrated
their
dedication
to their
city through
the "ForEverett"
project, a
partnership
between the
Everett Area
Chamber of
Commerce and
the city of
Everett. The
partnership
successfully
revitalized
the downtown
area, adding
homey
touches such
as flowers
and plants,
encouraging
the
renovation
of historic
buildings
and
championing
the
establishment
of new,
vital
businesses.
Today,
downtown
Everett is a
bustling
retail,
financial
and
government
center—as
well as a
relaxing
destination
for dining,
entertainment
and art. A
variety of
unique and
fascinating
shops make
downtown a
shopper’s
delight and
a
gastronomic
adventure
every day of
the week. On
weekends,
live music,
comedy and
dancing are
standard
fare at
dozens of
downtown
nightspots
and
restaurants.
Everett’s
fabulous
scenery and
plethora of
outdoor
activities
also help
drive the
success of
the local
economy.
Both
businesses
and
employees
are
attracted to
the area’s
unspoiled
natural
wonders,
such as lush
forests,
crystal
lakes, grand
mountains
and
refreshing
saltwater.
But an
inviting
natural
environment
is only part
of the
reason that
local
businesses
prosper.
County
government
does its
part, too.
The county
is focused
on helping
businesses
flourish
through
investments
in the
public
infrastructure,
streamlined
planning and
permitting,
building a
highly
educated
workforce
and
maintaining
other
necessary
resources.
